Apply Advanced First Aid (HLTFA402C)

Impact Apply Advanced First Aid Training (HLTFA402C) course gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide an advance first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers

2 days + completion of pre-course booklet/questions You will receive the manual and workbook at course registration which needs to be completed prior to the one day practical face to face training.

Course Content

This course is delivered by Impact Training which is a NSW VETAB Registered Training Organisation ensuring the statement of attainments are nationally recognised and is approved by WorkCover NSW (approval no. FA9430) and follows the policies of the Australian Resuscitation Council for the unit HLTFA301B Apply First Aid which incorporates the units HLTCPR201A Perform CPR and HLTFA201B Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and incorporates HLTFA404B Apply Advanced Resuscitation techniques.

The course covers both theory and practical topics which include:

  • Oxygen administration
  • Pharmacology
  • Communicate essential incident details

  • Automatic external Defibrillator
  • Cardiac conditions, medications and care
  • Co-ordinate first aid activities until arrival of medical assistance

Course Purpose

The flexible learning approach of this first aid course allows you to complete the theory at your own pace. The practical days are then used to focus on learning and practicing advanced first aid skills such as use of defibrillator and oxygen. The course is suitable for participants learning to apply advanced first aid training for the first time or those who are undertaking a advanced first aid refresher training or validation for their apply advanced first aid skills for their workplace requirements.

Pre-requisites

Participants must have a current Statement of Attainment in Apply First Aid HLTFA301C and must be at least 14 years of age and can be enrolled by a parent/ guardian to attend.

Assessment

Impact Training offers a hands on approach with progressive assessments throughout the course including multiple choice questions and practical scenarios.These assessments will take place in simulated conditions that replicate first aid situations as realistically as possible. You will be provided with all the appropriate materials including first aid equipment, AED, and resuscitation manikins to manage the scenarios.

This is competency based training, so we will ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the required competencies before you go home.

The assessment will cover the following:

  • OHS legislation and regulations
  • Legal responsibilities and duty of care
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Report preparation
  • Company SOP's and MSDS
  • Debriefing procedures
  • Dealing with confidentiality and cultural problems
  • Initial casualty assessment
  • Communication skills
  • Incident management skills
  • Administration of CPR / Defibrillation / Oxygen
  • First aid principles
  • Infection control
  • Safe manual handling
  • Capabilities of emergency management services

Award

On successful completion of this Nationally Recognised qualification, you will receive a Statement of Attainment in HLTFA402C Apply Advanced First Aid which incorporates the contenct of HLTFA404B Apply Advanced Resuscitation techniques and is valid for 3 years.

One form of photo ID will be required to be shown on the day of the course. Suitable ID includes a Drivers Licence, Passport, NSW RTA photo ID card or Birth Card.
