Changes to CPR include a focus on unresponsive and not breathing normally as indicators for the need for resuscitation. Emphasis on sending for help and the commencement of chest compressions and not performing the initial 2 rescue breaths. Also if the first aider is unwilling to provide breaths, they are advised to do compressions only CPR. D - Check for Danger R - Check for Response S - Send for Help A - Open the Airway B - Check for Breathing (if not, no need to deliver 2 rescue breaths) C - Compressions (30 compressions to casualties who are unresponsive and not breating normally, followed by 2 breaths D - Defibrillator (attach an AED as soon as possible) To read more about the new Australian Resuscitation guidelines go to www.resus.org.au Think about doing a Impact First Aid or CPR course today. |
