Certificate IV in Security Risk Management (CPP40707)

Overview:

This qualification is Nationally Recognised and is relevant to people responsible for security, that require knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate security vulnerability and risk, as well as develop cost effective security counter measures for their organisation or clients in the areas of retail, hospitality, financial, health care, aviation and government areas. If you are completing the Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management (CPP40707) for business licensing purposes there are mandated unit requirements stipulated by the regulatory authorities specific to your State.

Who is the course for:

Whilst the primary focus of the Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management qualification is security related risk, the process, skills and knowledge acquired are readily transferable to all business activities and is ideal for:

  • business owners/Master Licence holders in the security industry
  • middle managers and senior supervisors involved in security protection services
  • trainers of security and law enforcement courses
  • security consultants or private investigators
  • others that undertake risk assessments and conduct training and assessment duties as part of their job
  • persons wanting to increase their job prospect and promote career advancement.

This qualification is also the minimum standard to enable you to apply for a Class 2A (Security Consultants) and/or Class 2D (Security Industry Trainers) licence in NSW, providing additional requirements for licensing are met

Course Pre-requistes:

Whilst there are no formal prerequisites to undertake the course it is usually those employed in the Security Industry at Supervisory level or have access to a relevant work environment and have obtained a Certificate II in Security Operations. An acceptable reading and comprehension ability is required.

You must be able to produce a current NSW Security License or you must download and read the NSW Police Force Fact Sheet 6 "Grounds for Refusing or Revoking a Provisional, Class 1 or Class 2 Licence" and complete the Form P1016 NSW Police Force "Acknowledgment of Grounds for the Refusal of Security Licence" and submit it to Impact Training prior to commencing the course.

Students will require their own copy of Australian/NZS ISO Standard 31000:2009 Risk management - principles and guidelines or access to it.

Duration:

The Certificate IV in Security Risk Management course is delivered in either a mixed delivery mode (requires 56 hours of class room/workshop attendance – 7 days) or as a totally distance learning program. It can also be achieved through the RPL process. The qualifications require 15 modules to be completed with the nominal hours for the course of approximately 450. A study plan of approximately 25 weeks is supplied to course participants. This period can be varied depending on your work commitments and experience as long as the course is completed within 12 months.

Assessment:

The course is completed by way of a interactive CD ROM, workbooks, assignments including case studies, for use both on and off-the-job. There are workplace-based projects and assignments that participants complete in their own time. Participants are expected to apply in the workplace what they learn in the course and be able to demonstrate they have met the competency standards.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Recognition of Prior Learning is available to persons who have extensive experience in the Security or Law Enforcement field. If you have any formal qualifications or skills gained through work experience or informal study that you believe cover the competencies of the modules and you can support or demonstrate these through evidence and assessment that you have attained you can be eligible to gain a credit for that module, but you must be able to satisfy all of the performance criteria for each of the elements of the modules you are apply for.

Option 1: External or Mixed Delivery Mode

This course is designed for the busy student who can’t make it to classes. The Impact program uses a simulated interactive Security Risk Management CD, and E-book as a resource. The material will situate you in a security risk management business and workplace that allows you to interact with virtual staff and experience authentic work that you would come across in a real workplace.

The course also allows you the opportunity to apply theory to various scenarios or your own real life workplace projects. This makes the learning relevant and interesting and allows you to complete the course around your schedule and you can start any time and work through it at your own pace. The course fee is $1295.

Option 2: RPL Process

If you have had over 5 years experience in the security industry together with consulting and management experience, you should consider the RPL process by undertaking a self assessment against the competency standards of the course.

Assessment is via a detailed portfolio of evidence, workbook questions and written scenarios to support your claim. Further information about the RPL process will be explained prior to enrolment with any of our training consultants. Where you or a Impact assessor identify the need for further training you may choose to do this through the completion of individual modules (at an additional fee). The fee for the RPL assessment is $895
