NSW Security Licencing Course SOA

Enrol into a 1A/C/G NSW Security Course 

(available at our Dapto Centre)

This qualification is Nationally Recognised and is the necessary requirement together with a First Aid Certificate to apply to work as a licensed security operative in the areas of general security, crowd control and loss prevention. These areas of security work are covered under the NSW 1A, 1C and 1G classes of security licences that are issued by the NSW Security Industry Registry.

This comprehensive training course will develop the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence for you to work effectively as a security operative across a broad range of areas within the growing and demanding security industry. This is achieved through the various theory lectures covering conflict management, legal studies, and security procedures combined with practical training in alarm systems, handheld metal detectors and radios, together with various activities and role plays to enhance skills attainment to enable you to effectively deal with situations that you as a security operative are likely to encounter.

It will also provide the foundation studies together with 12 months relevant work experience combined with 2 on the job assessments to progress to a Certificate II in Security Operations.

Designed for

This course is designed for first time entrants wishing to enter the security industry, who will e working under direct supervision for the first 12 months. This course is the minimum standard to enable you to apply for a NSW Class 1A,C, G provisional security licence that will allow you to work in the security industry undertaking the following type of work:

  • Class 1A - Licence will authorise you to work as a patrol person, guard, watch or protect property including cash in transit (unarmed)
  • Class 1C - Authorise you to work as a crowd controller or bouncer
  • Class 1G - Licence authorise you to work as a retail loss prevention officer

These are the three most popular classes of licences for employment opportunities in the security industry.

Career / employment opportunities

Career and employment opportunities available upon completion of this course would include working as a:

  • Patrol officer (either mobile or on foot at large commercial or industrial sites)
  • Static guarding (banks, department stores, building sites as an example)
  • Crowd control officers (e.g. sporting events and entertainment venues)
  • Unarmed alarm response officers
  • Concierge work at large apartment buildings and hotels etc.
  • Hotel and nightclub and door work
  • Loss prevention officers' in large department stores or supermarkets
  • Airport security or transit guards on trains or buses

  • CPPSEC2012A Monitor and control individual crowd behaviour
  • CPPSEC2014A Operate basic security equipment
  • CPPSEC2015A Patrol premises
  • CPPSEC2017A Proct self and others using basic defensive techniques*
  • CPPSEC3013A Control persons using empty hand techniques*
  • TLIE707B Use communication systems

*denotes that the unit of competency

Entry requirements

Prior to commencing this course, all students must undertake an English literacy assessment and sign a P1016 Form acknowleding that they have not committed any offences that would disqualify them from holding a security licence as indicated in Fact Sheet 6, be 18 years of age when applying for a security licence.

Course duration

This course has a minimum nominal hours of 80 and is a full time classroom format.

Course fee

Below are the course fees for the various course options which are conducted at Wollongong.

  • Option 1 Class 1A + 1C + 1G Security Course 10 days (80 hrs) of training - Fee $750
  • Option 2 Class 1A + 1C + 1G Security + First Aid 11 days (88 hrs) of training - Fee $800

Learning materials

Impact Training will provide learning materials in this course in the form of:

  • Hardcopy of manuals and workbooks for each module.
  • Interactive classroom group activities,
  • Practical equipment demonstrations and use with hands on activities and role plays

Assessment

The course is completed by way of classroom based lectures and participation. With simulated role plays, observation of scenarios, the use of various security equipment, completion of security incident reports, practical assessments and theory based multiple choice examinations.

Past experiences count

Unfortunately, no RPL/RCC is available for this course.

Conditions of enrolment

The course requires 100% attendance together with active participation within the classroom environment in discussion, active involvement in the practical sessions, and successfully completing workbooks, practical assessments and theory exams in each of the modules prior to the progression to the next module.

Pathways

On completion of this qualification, you will be able to apply for a 1 year NSW Security Provisional Licence and the fee for this is $155 plus $40 fingerprint fee. Once you are licenced, you then can commence work in the security industry. Within the first 12 months of your security career and prior to the renewal of your licence you will be required to be participate in 2 on the job assessments that will lead you to be assessed for a Certificate II in Security Operations.

Read this Course Information Sheet carefully. It is important to read the Impact Student Information Handbook, then;

  1. Download the necessary forms at the Course Registration area. There are 3 PDF forms that are required to be completed. These are:
    • Course Registration Form
    • Form P1016 NSW Police Force "Acknowledgement of Grounds for the Refusal of Security Licence"
    • NSW Police Force Fact Sheet 6 "Grounds for Refusing or Revoking a Provisional, Class 1 or Class 2 Licence"
  2. Once the forms have been downloaded, complete the Impact Training Services Registration Form Security, ensure you tick the course option that you wish to undertake.
  3. You must read the NSW Police Force Fact Sheet 6 "Grounds for Refusing or Revoking a Provisional, Class 1 or Class 2 Licence" and complete the Form P1016 NSW Police Force "Acknowledgement of Grounds for the Refusal of Security Licence".
  4. Attach a clear photocopy of your Drivers Licence and your Australian Birth Certificate or Australian Citizenship papers verified by a Justice of the Peace. If you are from New Zealand include verified copies of your passport clearly showing your name, date of birth, passport number and the stamp showing your date of entry into Australia.
  5. Attach your full payment or 50% deposit and return all of the above paperwork either by mail to:

  6. Impact will process your application and we will contact you.
